well here is a movie i've always wanted to see. a sequel to the rocky horror picture show. it is directed by the same man, written by the same people and stars brad and janet. it also was never that easy to find (at least for cheap on dvd) until i saw it recently at my local dollar store for three bucks. how could i say no? now being kind of hard to find and no one ever talking about it i knew that it wouldn't be that good. okay, i knew it wouldn't be anywhere near as good as rocky horror but i figured that it would still be a decent and fun movie in the same vein as the original. well it was in the same vein but that's about it. i am actually shocked at how bad this was. the camerawork was pretty great with some excellent shots and jessica harper was great(although more of a nostalgia great for phantom of the paradise than actual great) but then everything else was just bad. the music and the dancing and the script and the acting all felt rather awkward. awkward for me as i watched it and awkward for all the actors who had to perform it and awkward for all the people behind the scenes who had to make and then release it. barry humphries was just so awful he almost made me turn off the film. the story was so incomprehensible i had no idea what was happening or going on for most of the film. it actually felt like a bunch of random scenes, almost like a sketch comedy show, thrown together that somehow formed a slight semblance of a a story, a very slight semblance. the music was just not very good at all, with songs that were dumb and non sensical. harper was the only one who didn't seem awkward dancing and singing to this stupid movie but again i think it is more because watching here sing and dance reminded me of phantom of the paradise and walking down red corridors reminded me of suspiria. cheap looking sets, cheap looking costumes, awful characters and a whole lot of stuff that tries to mimic rocky horror and fails miserably. jessica harper as janet; she is no susan sarandon but she was okay. whoever played brad; boy did i miss barry bostwick. barry humphries was supposed to be this versions frankfurter; more like a real bad dr. strangelove impersonation. no meatloaf, no sing along songs, no nothing that was redeeming (except harper). some of the songs had some cool music beats and felt sort of rocky horror at times but if there was 60 minutes of music and song maybe 5 minutes were any good. charles grey shows up here and all i can say is he must of needed money because this has to be the worst thing i have ever seen him in, ever. if i were fox, dame edna or richard o'brien i would of burned every copy of this movie. i definitely would not of released it and i would not of put it out on home video or dvd (in a 25th anniversary edition no less). this film is an embarrassment on all counts and if rocky horror wasn't as good as it was it could of been hurt bigly by this dreck. i honestly couldn't wait for this dumb, what the hell is going on? movie to end. i must of looked at my watch 45 times and the movie is only 92 minutes. i wasted 92 minutes, i wasted three bucks and i wasted precious time thinking i wanted to see this movie for years. never again, i will never ever ever watch this garbage again. okay, time to go and watch something else so i can forget about this and never ever think about it again. production design: 6 out of 10 cinematography: 6 out of 10 re-playability: 0 out of 10 originality: 5 out of 10 costumes: 5 out of 10 directing: 5 out of 10 editing: 6 out of 10 acting: 5 out of 10 music: 5 out of 10 script: 2 out of 10 45/100
