film #14 of hooptober the 6th: the producers cut one of the two greatest in roger corman's series of edgar allen poe adaptations for american international pictures, pit and the pendulum represents a deeply important film in horror cinema. while perhaps not quite on the level of house of usher, richard matheson's script is quite good in how it takes poe's short story and fleshes it out to create a psychological thriller with teases of the supernatural throughout. vincent price is known of course for playing villainous roles, but here he is quite sympathetic for much of the film, even when read more
