Eyes of Laura Mars

this is the the most de palma film that de palma had nothing to do with, though john carpenter's influence is also very apparent. it is a perfectly fine thriller that leans into its more lurid aspects, but doesn't rely on the nudity and violence alone. the way they leaned into the whole eyes thing got a little silly, but overall it worked. i was able to figure out basically where they were going pretty easily, but that didn't really detract much. faye dunaway really performs to the level of her material, when she is in a great film, she is fantastic, but when she is in a bad film, she isn't... read more
