when i decided to collect and purchase all thebrian de palma films i discovered one i had never heard of before (well more than one but still). it was called wise guys and it stared the great danny de vito and the very underrated joe piscopo. i think saying i was excited to watch it was an understatement when it came to this film. and then i started watching it and right away i was disappointed. within 10 minutes i hated it and then until the end i was ticking down the minutes till it was over. this has to be one of de palma's worst if not the worst. it wasn't funny, it wasn't fun, it wasn't anything. the story sucked, the actors who i usually like i didn't like and that joe piscopo was the worst thing ever. he was the opposite of funny, he was the reverse of entertaining, he was perhaps the most annoying character and actor i have ever seen lead a film. his performance here is for a career killer. wise guys begs a lot of questions. like what was de palma thinking when he made this? or how is the man who made scarface and carrie the same man that made this? or the age old people thought 'he!' was funny? without a doubt, wise guys is one of the most disappointing films i have ever seen. even though it isn't widely seen and even though it has bad reviews from critics and audiences alike and even though i didn't expect it to be great i sure as hell didn't think it would be as bad as it was. i will be thankful if i never have to watch or think about this turd again. production design: 6 out of 10 cinematography: 6 out of 10 re-playability: 0 out of 10 originality: 4 out of 10 costumes: 5 out of 10 directing: 3 out of 10 editing: 6 out of 10 acting: 4 out of 10 music: 6 out of 10 script: 3 out of 10 43/100
