the remastered documentary series is a great way for people unfamiliar with the most significant yet underdiscussed incidents in the history of the music industry. sure, it's valid to criticize these films as being feature-length tellings of wikipedia entries to a degree, but i think that misses the point to a degree. netflix's series shines a spotlight on moments related the the industry that really impacted the world in various ways, bringing them to newcomers who hadn't heard about the miami showband killings or who don't know the details behind bob marley's shooting.
that means that they aren't for people who already know plenty and want a more want in-depth examination into the stories, to be sure. but for what they're trying to do, they do it well. the two killings of sam cooke is a great example of that as it jumps into the life and unjust early death of cooke, who a great many people probably wouldn't know by name even though they know songs like "chain gang," "you send me," or "a change is gonna come." the interviews cover a broad spectrum of people who knew cooke and while it certainly could have spent more time on cooke's death, this was another well-done entry in the remastered series that more people need to see.
