there was a period where there were several films that told the story of a the main character through several other characters describing their part in the main character's story. i think it started with citizen kane, but it is also is the structure of the barefoot contessa and others. it is a difficult structure to execute correctly and the bad and the beautiful doesn't quite get there. each of the stories was mildly interesting on their own, but none really stand out and as a whole they don't really add up to a particularly engaging story. the acting apart from gloria grahame is completely... read more
