genre list - courtroom dramas favourite writers - aaron sorkin the trial of the chicago 7: what a bloody mess that was ... not the film but the trial. i didnt know anything of this story and after watching the film its hard to believe something like this happened. stand out performances by sacha baron cohen, jgl and frank langella. it didnt have the quick repertoire of a normal sorkin script, which is ok, as it was still sharp and precise. is it his best, perhaps not but its close. it was slightly choppy at times in its editing when trying to tell the story, which sometimes confused things.... read more

it made me feel unjust, unease, angry, enrage for an hour and a half to experience these events for the first time... but the end was not that satisfying for the amount of hard time i've felt for the first two thirds of the movie. i don't say you shouldn't watch it… no you should but for me it's a very hard experience i would never repeat. read more

a true story i knew nothing about. now i do, and in my learning, i was entertained. in the dramas of oscar-bait, i do find that this aspect of entertaining is often overlooked in the name of juicing out hard-hitting performances and whatnot. i prefer this approach. read more

The destinies of 7 very different people (plus 1) who protested against the US continued involvement in the Vietnam war converge in a Chicago court when they are jointly charged with conspiracy and inciting to riot. Flawlessly following the blueprint of courtroom dramas, this re-enactment of a political trial designed to smother protest and freedom of speech is predictably and satisfyingly stirring, with Langella clearly enjoying himself in the role of a rather partial judge and (co-producer) Cohen's brilliant serious turn as defendant Abbie Hoffman. read more

My quick rating - 7;5/10. This is a case where personal preference on two really great movies dealing with a similar time period and topic is the only thing that separates them. I personally thought Judas was the better of the two; and should be Oscar winner. But this is just splitting hairs. In this epic case of the shady happenings during and around the 1968 Democratic convention we have some OUTSTANDING acting top to bottom. The dialogue is so crisp; and so quickly delivered that the seriousness may overshadow the good humor that is slipped in so subtly; a second listen is sometimes read more

The yippies are amazing. Really love the way the story is brought. The fact you discover what happened as the trail happens is an interesting way to tell the story and discover what happened, especially since I don't know the story of the trial. The movie really made me hate the American judicial system. read more
