peter strickland's directing is excellent, obvious even on a budget, and so is the soundtrack. i knew what the movie was about, so i could appreciate how the mood was built while the on-screen events in the half hour didn't reveal much. while the movie is short, it still takes its time to get anywhere. this is a great thing though: the first half hour feels longer than it is, but in a good way. there are several striking visuals, like the long shot from behind katalin and her son sitting in the wagon, or some reminding me of herzog's shots of nature (like the misty cliffs, the forest), read more
