Let's just admit it, MCU is literally falling apart at this point. In current phase we've already got three movies and neither of them looked promising in trailers. Black Widow was doomed since very beginning and naturally, it ended up being the worst MCU movie ever made, while Shang-Chi... well... It's not as bad as I expected. And yet yes, it's quite bad.

The biggest problem with the MCU right now is the fact that there's nobody to stand out. Tony's out, Cap's out, T'Challa is tragically out too (RIP, Mr. Boseman, we all miss you very much), Thor's about to become secondary read more

The prologue is beautiful but drawn out and redundant. Initially we meet car valet Simu Liu as Shaun reprising his role as Jung from Kim’s Convenience. It is difficult to see past him as this character, intelligent but drifting in life, until the inevitable first fight which is extraordinarily well choreographed, much better than most of the subsequent fights. The main plot elements are dull, daddy issues, resentful sister, side-kick jester girlfriend. This and the main arc (magic collectibles) are vehicles upon which to hang the fabulous cgi vistas, effects and gratuitous violence. read more

My quick rating - 7;3/10. Nice to finally get the theatrical ball rolling for Phase 4. Due to pandemic reasons; things were forced to be changed up a bit and Disney+ has given us our intro into what a portion of this new saga was going to be. Kind of a pleasant surprise, definitely feels like a better example of what Marvel should be doing post Endgame than Black Widow . I feel like this would have been better off being slightly shorter and lower in scale than the big epic they try and make it. At the start of the year I thought Black Widow was going to be my favourite Marvel movie of 2021. Turns out I was wrong. Shang-Chi is my favourite Marvel movie of the year, and could possibly be my all time favourite Marvel movie. Honestly, a truly surprisingly great film. I didn't watch any trailers prior to the release and my Marvel internal hype train was at an all time low so I wasn't looking forward to it too much.It has everything you'd expect from a Marvel movie. Was super entertaining from start to finish. Still a Marvel movie, but in places it rises above. It meets my sign for a movie I really enjoyed when I'm ready to spend more time with the characters as soon as the credits finish rolling. read more

this is another standard committee approved marvel film, except you can see where the covid lockdowns caused production changes and squeezed budgets. shang must defeat the ring leader of a criminal empire, pretty easy premise. it starts strong, but loses speed by the minute. the finale feels underwhelming. there wasnt much weight to it. the fight choreography is beautiful. the scaffolding brawl looks great. what lets this down is the special effects. the movement effects and the cgi water just looked… off. the goon costumes looked like a first draft sketch. i liked michelle yeoh in this a... read more

blablabla visually a masterpiece. anyway... the pacing and story structure felt so perfectly robotic that it reminded me of how mcdonalds chips are salted in a way to make it physically impossible to dislike. shang-chi's only real problem is how profit driven it feels. it tries so hard to appeal to the masses that it becomes tedious and predictable in the process. moreover, for every risk it takes, like making some yankees frown when they realize they need to read subtitles for all the chinese dialogue, it shits all over something else. like, superficially, the movie really wants to imply read more
