Review of Tarzan

Overall Rating
tarzan has all the makings of a great disney cartoon. it's got a great score, some stunning animation, photorealistic locations, great action, a very cool tarzan swinging on vines and sliding along trees and lance henriksen voicing a great ape. but then it also has a lot of problems that make it a typical lesser disney film from an era when disney films were dying to the likes of pixar. these problems are: 1) phil collins and his songs are somewhat cheesy and all sound the same and tonely don't fit (most of the time) 2) the voice acting isn't the greatest for the most part. not bad but nothing stellar except of course for lance. 3) it's dark at times, it's action packed, it's exciting and then it becomes too kid oriented with very sudden tonal changes and then it jumps back to the action and so on and so forth. 4) rosie o'donnell's character is pretty generic and not that funny 5) the editing is at times rushed, the story unfocused, the scenes to quick or too long 6) it sometimes tries too hard. i don't dislike this film, as i said it is very entertaining but it's just not as original, breathtaking, awe inspiring or well done as you'd expect from disney. there are some great moments but not enough to warrant a higher rating. still worth seeing though, especially if you are younger or have kids. production design: 9 out of 10 cinematography: 8 out of 10 re-playability: 7 out of 10 originality: 6 out of 10 costumes: 7 out of 10 directing: 7 out of 10 editing: 7 out of 10 acting: 7 out of 10 music: 7 out of 10 script: 7 out of 10 72/100
